Movin Miranda is based in Malaysia and keenly pursues his quizzing hobby. He has conducted over 1000 quizzes starting from 1982. This includes an annual quiz for schools in Malaysia each year since 2006 for the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway in Malaysia at six cities spread over Malaysia.
Movin ranks consistently in the top 200 in the World Quizzing Championship by IQA (International Quizzing Association – currently ranked 37). He is also twice winner of the Asian Quiz Championships.
Movin Miranda is a Chemical Engineering graduate from Bangalore University in India and has since made a career in Industrial Product Marketing and now serves as GM in a Malaysian firm, supplying hi-tech engineering goods to the Oil and Gas market in Malaysia and South-East Asia and executing mid-size EPC projects.
A cosmopolitan, third-culture, Hong Kong kid, Ayeesha was educated through the ESF before receiving a BSc in Psychology and Social Anthropology in the UK and a PGDE in HK.
Ayeesha is a passionate learner and educator who conducts quiz nights all over the city. An IB PYP teacher by day, she has a thirst for trivia and enjoys researching interesting and unique quiz topics. According to her, a good quiz should be inclusive, allowing people to demonstrate their knowledge without alienating anyone.
Even if you don’t know the answer, it should be interesting enough that you want to know because quizzes seek to celebrate a love of learning.
Ayeesha also runs an events company and works with several high profile charity events throughout the year, raising money for the local community.

Hey! My name is Ritika Vaswani and I am currently in year 12. I’m a student from Renaissance College and I have decided to join this activity because I want to try something new as my sister always was into photography and anytime we did shoots, I always helped out and learned a few techniques here and there. My name is Vernon from Kiangsu Chekiang College International Section and I will be one of the MCs for Mind Over Matter this year. I am very interested in random, trivial based, general knowledge and Mind Over Matter is a great place to unleash the inner nerd that I have inside of me. My hobbies include Model United Nations as well as procrastination. It is an honour to be working with my fellow MCs for the competition.
My name is Jophy and I’m from HKMA David Li Kwok Po College and I will be one of the MCs for Mind Over Matter this year. I am a homebody and a nerd who loves to stay at home and read novels, comics or mangas all day long. I also enjoy doing quizzes and trivia as it helps stimulate my brain and allow me to learn something more each day, that’s why it’s an honour to have the opportunity to be the mcs for the competition along with Vernon and Jeenat.
I'm Jeenat Walia from HKMA David Li Kwok Po College. I'll be one of the emcees of Mind Over Matter this year and I'll be working alongside some great people. My life basically consists of exploring, interacting, debating, dancing, acting and playing volleyball, thus being an emcee at this event will provide me with a great opportunity to utilize most of my hobbies to meet new people and learn a tad more about the world.
Awesome finale and a fitting end to the 4th edition of Mind Over Matter 2018 - thanks, participants, teachers, schools, sponsors and volunteers!
We had 34 teams (102 participants) from 17 schools who enthusiastically participated competing with other schools. An engrossing preliminary session saw the top six teams - German Swiss International School - Team 4, Hong Kong International School - Team 2, American International School - Team 3,Kiangsu Chekiang College, Renaissance College - Team 2 and French International School - Team 1 making it to the finals.
Kiangsu Chekiang College walked away with top honours and the bragging rights to be called the Best School Quizzers. Along with the Trophy, they also won prizes from Revo IT.
American International School was the First Runner up and they won a trophy and BSD virtual Reality Headsets. The team from Hong Kong International School followed closely to be the Second Runner up and won a trophy and vouchers from Slope Infinity.
The feedback from the teams was very encouraging as it was a unique experience for them to represent their schools, make new friends and compete in a thrilling environment. The atmosphere was lively and buzzing with activity. During lunch we had the photo booth, the students and teachers enjoyed that experience too.
